With Thyme and Sage and Oregano. And spinach, arugula, broccoli, celery leaf, parsley, and other lettuces. I finally planted my first garden! I have had the tire planter for awhile, but needed to get plants and soil. I bought the tire from the farmer's market in Nacogdoches to support the local 4H club or something like that. I wasn't sure what to plant or when, but I knew there was a lady who comes to my local farmer's market occasionally selling starter plants and seeds. I have talked to her before to get ideas but I didn't have a planter. So I hit up the farmer's market this past Saturday and bought some plants from her (support local!). I asked her a lot of questions trying to garner more knowledge because I have never grown anything before. She was very helpful and gave me her card in case I want to email her any other questions or give her a call.
Side note: Growing up in the hill country, you learn the deer will come up on your front porch and eat anything you have in a pot as if it was a salad bar. Even those "deer resistant" plants will be eaten if they are hungry enough. So, this is why I have never grown anything. Also, my mom can kill just about anything, even cacti, so I really hope I don't have her black thumb. Love you mom!
Below are some pictures of everything planted. My next goal is to get a compost bin going to feed my plants eventually. And we also plan to build some bigger raised planting boxes soon. But first I will start with my small tire garden. Hopefully, I will have follow-up pictures to show when the plants are grown and ready to eat!
